Virtual Reality

Virtual reality (VR) is a computer based technology that utilizes headsets, sometimes in combination with physical spaces or multi-projected environments, to generate realistic images, sounds, and other sensations that simulate a user’s physical presence in a virtual or imaginary environment. The role of virtual reality in a clinical setting is becoming increasingly comprehensive and greatly recognized. Apart from its application in psychological treatments, virtual reality proves to be a good aid to education and ability training.

Our clinicians use the high-end virtual reality platform by Psious, which offers psychological treatments for various types of phobias, as well as relaxation, mindfulness, and EMDR. Within each environment, the therapist is able to expose the patient to the feared situation(s) and object(s), or relaxation technique, while gaging responses through biofeedback mechanisms. These virtual sessions help activate the emotional and cognitive state of the patient, while in a controlled environment, and assist patients through the in-vivo exposure treatment.
